Ingredients

  • 2 pounds (1 kg) of lean ground beef**
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 2 chopped garlic cloves
  • 3. Table spoon (45 ml) soy sauce
  • 1 Tea spoon (5 ml) cinnamon
  • 1 Tea spoon (5 ml) nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cups (1 l) water
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) chopped parsley
  • 1/2 cup (60 g) nuts and raisins *
  • 2 1/2 cups (625 mL) basmati rice

Preparation

  1. Heat the oil in a large pot over low heat. Add the chopped meat and break it into small pieces with a wooden spoon.  Cover and cook at low temperature for 15-20 minutes. Remove excess fat.
  2. Add onions, garlic, salt, soy sauce and spices. Cover and cook for 10 minutes or until brown meat is browned.
  3. Add water, walnuts, raisins, parsley and stir well. Bring to a boil.  As soon as the water begins to make small bubbles, add the rice and stir.  Lower the temperature immediately over low heat, cover, then cook for 20-30 minutes.
  4. Serve with tomatoes, cucumber and garlic mayonnaise.

**A block of tofu with herbs, crushed until you have the consistency of ground beef, which you will heat as the first step but add immediately the garlic, onions, soy sauce and spices and simmer for 15 To 20 minutes.
